    Conductor Jüri Alperten Soloist Marcel Johannes Kits (cello)Programme: Ludwig van Beethoven– Overture to “Fidelio” Antonin Dvořák - Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104 Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy - Symphony No 5 in D major/D minor, Op. 107Concerts with the orchestra’s long time principal conductor Jüri Alperten are always long-awaited events. Cellist Marcel Johannes Kits (the winner of competition “Klassikatäht” in 2013) and the orchestra will perform a large-scale composition by Antonín Dvořák, a work that has been called his tenth symphony. It’s definitely the most popular in its genre and could be compared to the greats like Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 or Brahm’s Violin Concerto. The violin that Marcel Johannes Kits performs with was made by Francesco Ruggieri in Cremona in 1674; the bow was made by French craftsman Victor Fétique in around 1900.     The concert programme „Here is the song“ is an opportunity to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of the living legends of Estonian music. Having retained his gallant gentlemanly style, the beloved soloist of the Estonian National Opera, „Wild knight“ Voldemar Kuslap, is known to many Estonians as an opera and operetta star, the star of the classic movie ‘Men don’t cry’, and as a pop singer. Maestro Kuslap is happy to still be on stage, and drives himself to his various performances across Estonia from his apartment in Mustamäe.

    Estonian painter Mart Sander exhibition

    Born in Tallinn, Mart Sander was educated as a musician and started his professional career at the age of 18 as the member of the Estonian National Opera. Since then he has performed around Europe as solo singer, conductor or with his orchestra The Swing Swindlers. He is also a well known actor and TV personality, hosting such major shows as Dancing With The Stars and Sing Your Face Off in Estonia. He has directed and acted in several films and stage productions and has published several best selling fiction novels. Mart Sander was presented to HRM Queen Elizabeth II on her official visit to Estonia and was commended by the Queen for championing British music, especially Gilbert and Sullivan, in Estonia. Sander is Roman Catholic and the knight of the order of St Stanislaus. Mart Sander took up drawing and painting in his early childhood. During the last decade, he has become more dedicated to perfecting his skills as an artist. Last year, he made it to the finals of ARC (Art Renewal Center) salon, The most prestigious realist art competition in the Americas and perhaps the world. The exhibition at the Villa Ammende features the highlights of Mart Sander’s art from the last decade. Mart Sander’s work on Saatchi Art: Exhibition is open daily 12noon – 7pm Entrance is free.
