December 1st is the International AIDS Victims’ Memorial Day and the day for combating the spread of HIV. The purpose of marking this day is to draw global attention to the spread of HIV and AIDS, to show solidarity with people living with HIV and AIDS patients, and to promote HIV prevention activities to curb the further spread of the virus worldwide.
On December 1st, the NGO EHPV calls on national leaders for a new AIDS strategy by lighting solidarity candles.
Red ribbon-shaped candles — a symbol of tolerance, hope, equality, and the right to live without fear of stigma — serve as a visible reminder of solidarity.
