Pärnu is a resort town with over 170 years of tradition and experience. The first bathing establishment opened its doors to visitors in 1838 to provide baths with warm seawater in summer and sauna in winter. Building in the resort really took off in the late 19th- early 20th century and flourished in the period between the wars when pensions, villas, parks and entertainment facilities were extensively developed. Pärnu became an elegant seaside town where health treatments went hand in hand with music, dance and entertainment. Today Pärnu is still the largest and most visited resort in Estonia. The town enjoys a perfect location, a shallow bay and sandy beach, fresh sea air, large green spaces, all of these and high quality health and wellness services guarantee high visitor numbers. Our spa hotels and centres have treatments and facilities galore – saunas, massages, treatments with mud, water, paraffin, chocolate or laser and salt chambers to name a few. For the more boisterous there is a “freezing hug” at minus 100 degrees centigrade in the cold chamber. But not only the town can boast spa facilities, how about going to a farm spa? A number of guest houses can heat their sauna for you where you can have a good traditional whisking (a combination of aromatherapy and massage when your body is gently beaten with a bunch of birch branches), treatments and massages with honey or salt. Then again you could sit in a hot tub outdoors while gazing at the stars and listening to the wind in the willows in the backdrop of our excellent countryside and be perfectly relaxed.
